Read more…At that time, Mary quickly went to a city in the Judean highlands. She entered Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the fetus in her womb jumped.
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and exclaimed loudly,
“You’ve been blessed among women;
the fruit of your womb is blessed!
How is it the mother of my Master might come to me?
“Look: When I heard the sound of your greeting, the fetus in my womb jumped for joy. How awesome for she who believes that the things the Lord told her will be fulfilled!”

People tend to skip right over this bit and go straight to the Magnificat, Mary’s prophecy which immediately follows. In doing so they miss the significance of what the Holy Spirit did through Elizabeth.
