No, not Thanksgiving Day. The holiday is named after thanksgiving, and of course thanksgiving is a form of prayer: We thank God for anything and everything.
“Thanksgiving” is used to translate the Hebrew yadá/“use one’s hand[s in praise],” and the Greek evkharistía/“gratitude”—from which we get the word Eucharist. We offer our praise, gratitude, and thanks to God, for he is good, and his love lasts forever. We thank him for his mighty works. But not just that: We proclaim his greatness to others by making God’s works known, thereby causing them to praise him as well. Thanksgiving, therefore, is best done as public prayer, and as group prayer.
